PRIVATE SERVERS

Private servers

In 2004, the official Lineage II server software was leaked and a significant number of private servers appeared. Modification of the official game client allowed players to connect to non-official (private) servers. However, some private servers that run emulated server code require only modification of the hosts file in the player's operating system, leaving the client unchanged.

There are currently three completely independent open source server emulators. All of which have been released under the GPL license and allow the client to connect with only a host file change. L2J, the first emulator created for Lineage II, is written in Java, and is the most mature server emulator available. L2Adena[3] is written in C++ and is currently under development. L2castell[4] is a complete rewrite of a Java server emulator started by L2J developers who disagreed with certain design aspects of the server.

Some private servers have populations reaching into the thousands. Playing on private servers is free, although many are supported by donations from players.

Well, Its time I release some information on the Open Beta. We we will around 12-1PM EST GMT -5:00 on Friday. It will be about 2-3 hours long. During this time, I hope to see everyone log in, and get to level 10 by the end just for fun.

Although you can join and create any character race. ONLY HUMANS ARE PLAYABLE. None of the other towns have ACTIVE AI as of yet. This is only content, and is easy to add, just time consuming. The humans have an active town, with some quests active + the dungeon.

As of now (Depending how things go) Geodata will be turned off during the beta. Single Layer Geodata is working OK with some issues. But once we get to multilayer geodata its pretty bad as of yet. I only had 1 day to progress this. So, we will work without it.

What I have done today. I added in town respawn zones. This works EXACTLY like official and NOT like L2j. In l2j, you have 1 spawn point for Chaos players, and some for towns. We have the exact same system with many spawn points to avoid anything like camping chaos points. We also even have the PVP zones working, so if you die in an area, your good to go just spawn outside (same as MDT). Its flawless. One thing left to add is with PKs and Karma over 5, you spawn at Florean. But that won't be hard at all. (Didn't want to add this as if you spawn there, we will have an issue getting you back).

Moving along, on what I still have to do. I am working now on peace zones and special zones such as the mother tree + regeneration, and town zones. This should be done by the beta test and can be put into test.

One thing I changed so far from official is, the agro/death system. I always hated in a Catacomb if someone died, with a train of monsters, they would take forever to go back, and you couldn't exp without a social aggro. When you die now, monsters just de-spawn, and re-spawn in 3 seconds (At the starting location). This will also help from people trying to get deep into LoA by training and fake death. We can change this later on if it becomes an issue somehow.
